Rezension (deutsch)

„Before We Disappear“, von Shaun David Huchtinson, sprach mich aufgrund seines Klappentextes an.
Ich fand das Setting in 1909, rund um die Seattle World Fair, die tatsächlich auf einem reellen, stattgefunden Ereignis basiert, brillant ausgewählt und einfach was neus. Man konnte sich deutlich die Ausstellungen vorstellen, sie fühlen und entwickelte mit den Charakteren eine Faszination für sie. Einfach nur brillant. Ich mochte auch die Märchenelemente, die hier eingeflochten waren und den Funken echte Magie erschufen. Huchtinsons Schreibstil war dabei locker, flüssig und ich flog bloß so durch die Seiten. Er war der Zeitepoche auch angepasst, besaß aber genug eigene Magie, das er bezauberte. Wortwörtlich. Die Konflikte, die Huchtinson hier aufzieht, zeigen deutlich, dass sie nicht nur in unserer jetzigen Zeit präsent sind, vor allem durch Medien, sondern auch schon zur damaligen waren. Einziger Unterschied, früher wurden sie totgeschwiegen, jetzt setzt man sich über dieses Schweigen hinweg. Aus gesunden Gründen. Verbunden mit der doch klaren Story und dem Wunsch nach Freiheit, der hier vermittelt wird, wurde daraus eine gute, relitätsnahe Mischung. Selbst als ein paar Fragen offen blieben.
Die Hauptprotagonisten waren mir sympathisch, zwar manchmal etwas schnell in ihrer Entwicklung, aber sonst rundherum vorstellbar.
An einigen Stellen des Buches wünschte ich mir mehr von der Ausführung und Erklärung mancher Zaubertricks. Die blieben auf der Strecke, obwohl sie groß mit angepriesen waren.
Der Spannungsbogen war etwas nonexistent, was mich schon so einiges gestört hatte.

Fazit. Setting, Charaktere und Schreibstil, ganz anders, als was man sonst so liest. Kann ich alleine deswegen empfehlen.

Das Buch hat von mir 3,5/5🌹bekommen.

„Before We Disappear“, from Shaun David Huchtinson, is my first book from the author and sounded good.
The setting in 1909, in the middle of the seattle world fair, which is based in the real wolrd fair to this time, was simply amazing and something new. You could imagnie the exposition, feel them and become amzaed by them like the charachters. I loved it. I also liked the little fairytale moments, the little bit of lore, which was its on kind of magic. Huchtinson had a fluffy, simple writing style and made it so, so it suited the timeperiod. The conflicts, Huchtinson draws upon here and how he has woven them, show, that they did not just exist now, but existed also than. With the only difference, that now its much more talked about. And in connection with the clear, straightforward story and the wish for freedom, it mad me feel, it was simply good. Even though, some questions stayed unanswered.
The protagonists were sympathic, sometimes to fast in ther development, but lovable.
I also wished, as I was reading the book, that the magictricks would have more showtime or some kind of explanation, how they worked. It was literally a part of the book, but did not get any.
The charging was nonexistent, what did annoy me sometimes.

So, to sum everything up. Amazing Setting, characteres and writing. Something diffrent, to what we ware used to.
